Volunteer with SWAP
Are you looking for something new to do in your spare time – do you want to meet people from different countries, help other people to find their way around the borough, use your problem-solving skills and earn CV points at the same time? If so, we can probably help you!
SWAP needs volunteers for a range of roles, including visiting new arrivals in their homes and showing them around the borough, helping us to run social activities such as coffee mornings or bowling evenings, putting people in touch with others who speak their language or giving us a hand with office-based tasks.
What skills and qualities should a SWAP volunteer have? Well, you don’t need to speak a second language to be a volunteer, although we are always happy to find people with foreign language skills. For us, it’s more important that you:
- enjoy learning about other cultures and countries;
- are open-minded and willing to explore the stereotypes about migrants;
- have a few hours a week that you can give to SWAP on a regular basis;
- are willing to expand your own knowledge about support systems in the UK
- want to help people to improve their own lives;
- have a sense of humour and enjoy the thrill of working with an new and growing organisation!
We give all volunteers full training, ongoing support and social activities, and we pay volunteering expenses. We want to make it easy for many kinds of people to become SWAP volunteers, so if you are interested in joining us but you have particular questions about whether you are suitable for SWAP and SWAP is suitable for you, then please call the office for a chat, on 01942 614486.
Still interested? Have a look at our volunteer application pack in the side menu, fill in the form and post it to the office: once we receive your form we’ll call you in for an interview. Good luck!
